Spindler's Marquetry Chamber - Schloss Fantaisie / Bayreuth

'Classical themes'

Contemporaneous parallels can also be found in Turin's cultural and artistic circle of Italian interior decoration. Especially the Italian, Folio, exerted a necessary educational influence at that time on the art of the Bayreuth court. The founding of an art academy in Bayreuth in 1756 saw Spindler's style widely developed. His ideas and skills had also been adopted for the Potsdam palaces (Berlin) and they can still be found here and there.

On the supraporte and the higher sections of the individual panels, landscapes are depicted with ancient ruins, pyramids, obelisks and a round temple as staffage. To unify this ensemble to the highest possible degree, Spindler incorporated themes from the Schlosspark Fantaisie into his work.
